Same platform, same power, which would you pick?
Personally I’d prefer a V8 over a twin-turbo 6 and the Camaro’s new interior certainly isn’t $20k worse than then ATS’s.
Though if you actually had to use your backseat …..

Camaro, the ATS-V is just bloody ugly...

TAKE THAT BACK BRO

Wat? IMHO you could argue boring …. but not ugly.

While I'm partial to the ATS-V sedan, $20,000 is a lot of money. I don't like it that much more. Same price? ATS everyday

ATS-V (sedan). If I wanted a muscle car, I’d get a Mustang. I would argue that although power figures are the same, they’re going after different audiences.

O.K.. sorry.. 2 door ATS is ugly.. 4 door looks nice.

I don’t know if GM build quality works the same way, but my dad is a Toyota and Lexus guy. In a loose comparison, the Lexus GX and the 4-Runner are cousins. And there’s about a $17,000 difference between them.
We have a Sienna and a GX. Using them as examples of build quality for Lexus and Toyota, you can see where the price differences between them come from. Everything closes a little better, fits a little better. There’s a door on top of the DVD player in the Lexus compared to it out in the open on the Sienna. The arm rest on the Lexus stays at a height you set, Toyota’s doesn’t. Just the little things and fit and finish. Soft touch versus it’s hard plastic but we tried to make it look fancy.
I agree that $20k is a bit extreme as a difference, but side to side, it might slowly start showing up where that $20k went in quality.
EDIT: Also I’m biased towards Cadillac, but I am also only a kid without a that real-world of a concept of money for when I grow up and have home loans and expenses.

The only thing I dislike about the Camaro is the fat steering wheel.
The only thing I dislike about the ATS-V is CUE. And that I can have an M3 instead.

I’d rather be seen in a Caddy, but not willing to pay 50% more for the privilege.

I prefer the Caddy but I see your point about it maybe not being 20k nicer. The Camaro interior looks.. less than great to my eye.

i dont think you could call either of them particularly good looking.

Definitely different audiences. I just think its interesting that GM has 2 cars on the same platform with the same power figure, but different engines.

Well …… you can also have a Vette or Hellcat instead too.

True.. but the 2-door Caddy is... yeah..

That is a good point. The Camaro will start around $25k iirc, so you’re going to certain things made to a price point.

To be honest I prefer the 4 door version of most cars, this one included, but I still wouldn’t call the 2 door ugly.
That’s OK, I can have yours.

Be my guest :) you can have it.

Neither is all that graceful looking but at least you can see out of the ATS. Really though, the gap isn’t $20k when comparably equipped.
The ATS-V starts at $62,665.
While pricing on the ‘16 Camaro hasn’t been announced yet, it’s safe to say it’s probably not going to be any cheaper than the current car. I configured a ‘15 Camaro 2SS with similar goodies to the ATS-V and it came out to $52,835.
That’s with the RS package (fancy exterior lighting etc), 1LE suspension, ZL1 6-piston brakes, dual-mode performance exhaust, short-throw shifter, black wheels, sunroof, and Recaro seats.
Sure you can get the Camaro with less stuff on it and for less money, and “same platform, same hp” still applies, but to me, it’s a more accurate comparison if you’re at least using similar equipment levels.

Surprised the first can’t see out of the Camaro comment took this long.
But I just went with the 2SS price. IMHO “fancy exterior lighting”, black wheels and sunroof are aesthetics and the new SS get the magnetic suspension so that negates the 1LE. Could even argue everything else you listed isn’t really needed at all …. but thats why you buy a “muscle car”.

Hey, I’ve driven a Camaro. You can’t see out of it. ;)
Turns out the sunroof is also optional on the ATS-V so you can throw that out.
The RS package is superfluous, but the ATS-V has similarly superfluous lighting as standard.
The wheels I included because the ATS-V has forged aluminum wheels that save weight so one could argue the the wheels on the Camaro factor in to the apples-to-apples comparison.
Are you sure the magnetic suspension is standard on the new SS? The 2016 Camaro site says it’s “available on the SS” which to me sounds like optional.
The ATS-V has an eLSD like the C7 Corvette, whereas the Camaro has a traditional mechanical LSD. That’s still good, but doesn’t do the active handling tricks of the eLSD.
The ATS-V has fancier brakes than the standard SS brakes. They’re both Brembo calipers but the ATS-V has bigger calipers and bigger, 2-piece rotors.
But really what it comes down to regardless of the specific picking of this option or that one, is that a good chunk of the price difference between the Camaro SS and the ATS-V is the things that are standard on the ATS-V and optional on the Camaro.

I mean, if I had the money for the ATS-V Coupe I’d buy a Corvette.
If I wanted a performance sedan the ATS-V would be a top option, but I’d probably take the Chevy SS over it.
If I could only afford a Camaro SS then the $20k difference is moot.

I’ve driven a Camaro too and I DD a Crossfire, you can see out of both just fine. People love to complain about it.
But do we even know what the new RS package has? Looks like everything gets LED lighting this time.
You’re probably right about the suspension. I only previously went to autoblog and read “The SS also gets Magnetic Ride Control for the first time”
But regardless the muscle cars have always been performance bargains, now that its on the same platform and makes the same power, its more obvious.

All 3 cars in that picture have the RS package. ;) Note the little red RS badges in the upper right corner of the lower grille.
Well actually on the red car in the middle that’s an SS badge but still.
Also while I’m sure to a Crossfire driver the Camaro feels positively airy to see out of, to those of us accustomed to cars with normal-sized windows, not so much.

… used to drive jeeps, still never has bothered me. Mirrors are a wonderful thing. Also have they even shown a non RS then? “Superfluous lighting” is on damn near everything now. Esp. since thats a SS specific bumper I wouldn't be surprised if its standard.
